Malaysia Airlines, Show Me The Real Fare - Part 4

I was thinking to end my ‘Malaysia Airlines, Show Me The Real Fare‘ blog series when MAS started to introduce ALL INCLUSIVE LOW FARE campaign recently. There’s no point to reveal the real/actual fares when MAS themselves showing the real fares in their advertisement. The promotion runs for 3 days only (10-12 November) and they put an interesting countdown counter for that matter in their booking website.

Frustratingly, their new GLOBAL ONLINE SALE promotion that started yesterday on midnight has went back to the same old approach. The advertised fares exclude, as usual, fuel surcharges and other taxes. Why don’t they just keep the same approach as what they have done in ALL INCLUSIVE LOW FARE campaign? At least Firefly had follow suits with their latest promotion recently.

I will continue this blog series until MAS or AirAsia really stop advertising fares that is not all-inclusive. The real/actual fares below were obtained from Malaysia Airlines website with the following search criteria:

  • Fly From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) only
  • 1 adult guest only
  • One way trip only
  • Promotional fares are for Economy class only

London: Advertised: RM1069, Actual: RM1915

Male, Colombo - Advertised: RM429; Actual: RM903

Sydney - Advertised: RM759; Actual: RM 1520.00

Paris - Advertised: RM999; Actual: RM 1595.00

Delhi - Advertised: RM429; Actual: RM903

Amsterdam - Advertised: RM1069; Actual: RM1915

Dubai - Advertised: RM899; Actual: RM1474

I’ve tried to book return flights to and fro London, but still, its giving me the non-promo price. More than 5K which inclusive of tax and surcharges. Am I missing something here?

snhidayah,

Normally, there are 2 probabilities:
1. The promo fare for your selected date is sold out
2. your selected date is not during promo travel period

Hi Delon,

Yes, the promo has gone global. but they faced a stiff competition now from AirAsia for a similar international routes. As we all know, AirAsia has slashed fuel surcharges and giving away half a million free seats.

Wow! Now that’s what we call a real competition.
