Twitter ‘Find People’ Problem is Long Overdue

Posted by: ssroslan In: Twitter ()

Twitter users must have noticed this problem. Twitter has a Find People tool where you should be able to Search other Twitter users by Name or Location and later choose to follow them. I am not really sure when was the problem started but it had existed since the first day I register my first (I got a few accounts) Twitter account. That was more than 30 days ago! When you hit the Find button, it will show you this message with a cool little picture  below (maybe to cool down the user, sigh):

Cool drawing, but the problem is not so cool...

ASIMO is here in Malaysia!

ASIMO road tours leaflets

ASIMO - the great Honda’s R&D robot that evolved progressively since 1986 is here in Selangor, Malaysia. The road tour in Malaysia started with Selangor today until 16th Nov at New Wing, 1 Utama Shopping Center. Next stop will be Johor Bahru (20 - 23 Nov), and followed by Penang (27 - 30 Nov).

He is (yes, he’s a man) now 22 years old and is able to walk and run very smoothly. He can kick a ball and even do a waiter’s job - walking steadily while holding a tray of glasses to serve a waiting customer. This is another result of a no-nonsense job done by the Japanese giant and it took 22 hard years of research and development to reach the milestone.

I took a chance of long lunch hour after Friday prayer to catch his performance at the shopping complex and I must say that this machine is really extraordinary and wonderful…something that you love to keep at your home.

MAS Global Online Sale banner with active countdown counter

I was thinking to end my ‘Malaysia Airlines, Show Me The Real Fare‘ blog series when MAS started to introduce ALL INCLUSIVE LOW FARE campaign recently. There’s no point to reveal the real/actual fares when MAS themselves showing the real fares in their advertisement. The promotion runs for 3 days only (10-12 November) and they put an interesting countdown counter for that matter in their booking website.

Expect another round of controversy. Hope he will not get another ’sting’ from ISA :-(

What will happen when the great earth-viewing application meets the best mobile phone on the planet? You get the whole world in your palm! Or so they said. If you’re still in the dark of what I am talking about, it’s Google Earth - your favorite Google application, is now available for iphone! iphone users can now download Google Earth for free from iTunes or AppStore. They can enjoy the same features and benefits available in Google Earth for Desktop version.  And it also integrates well with iphone device and platform, especially it’s touch interface where you can swipe your finger across iphone wide screen to see the other side of the globe.

Polish driver follows GPS directions into lake

Posted by: ssroslan In: Gadgets ()

In my previous post, I wrote about how we can save car fuels by using GPS device to prevent us from spending too much time on the road looking for the right direction. Some GPS devices are very precise that it can say ‘Turn!’ right at the corner of the street that you looked for. Like in this case, right into the lake that the man was headed for I guess?

This is what will happen when people depend too much on technology and trust them more than themselves. I hope the man will find his final destination with his GPS. Sigh!

Malaysia Airlines Finally Shows The Real Fare

Posted by: ssroslan In: MAS Low Fares ()

Amazing! Malaysia Airlines finally showed the actual fare for their latest ‘ALL-INCLUSIVE LOW FARE’ promotions today with a banner:

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU PAY FOR

And some nice-to-see words:

INCLUDES FUEL SURCHARGE. AIRPORT TAX. INSURANCE LEVY

And for the first time, the normal ‘smallest fonts’ at the bottom of the advertisement page shows:

Fares include tax and surcharges as of 20 October 08

This time, Malaysia Airlines really took a bold move by doing a head-to-head actual price comparison with the so-called Low-Cost Carrier (which I believe is Air Asia, what else?). I bet the competitor will fight back with actual price comparison of their own in the next couple of days. What excites me most today is their willingness to start showing the actual/total fare price of their promotion. I think they have learnt a thing or two from my ‘Malaysia Airlines, Show Me the Real Fare’ series (sigh). I hope AirAsia and maybe FireFly can follow suit in practicing a responsible advertising to the consumer in the future.

A big applause to Malaysia Airlines!

Air Asia, Show Me The Real Fare (Part 3)!

Posted by: ssroslan In: AirAsia Low Fares ()

It’s almost a month since our last ‘Air Asia, Show Me The Real Fare’ series. This is because there’s not much real low fare deals released by Air Asia then. However, yesterday they released a new ‘Absolute Low Fare’ campaign with full page ads in the newspaper with a little bit different approach. This time around, they promoted destinations based on themes that is: ‘Absolute Indulgence (Shopping, Food, Spa), ‘Absolute Splendour (Heritage & Culture), and ‘Absolute Adventure (Golfing, Diving and Island). There are also a full page counter-offer from the competitor (Malaysia Airlines) on the same day. However, the offer is not new and I already have it covered here in the previous post.

There are good news yesterday as well where global airlines have begun to cut their fuel surcharge as crude oil prices dip to their lowest in almost a year. It’s interesting to see how our local airlines will respond to this to boost passenger numbers as the industry fights the effects of the global financial crisis.

So, as usual let’s check the real fares that you have to actually pay from the latest advertised Air Asia low fare promotion. The real fares below were obtained from Air Asia website with the following search criteria:

  • Fly From LCC Terminal, Kuala Lumpur only
  • 1 guest only
  • One way trip only
  • Promotional fares are for Economy class only

Check it out!

About

This blog was born out of curiosity of how it feels to be part of blogosphere. I wrote about everything that my head told me. The most challenging that I found in blogging is: ‘lots of thoughts, lack of times’. I wish I could spend more time for this blog.

Anyway, just enjoy whatever you can read here! I hope you can get some benefits from the readings.
